Arts

Milagro Foundation  Letters of inquiry may be submitted at any time for grants that support underrepresented and underprivileged children and youth in the areas of the arts, education, and health.  Typical grants are between $2,500 and $5,000.

Community

Learn and Serve America: School-Based Grants  The Corporation for national and Community Service (CNCS) seeks application for K-12 school-based programs that involve students ages 5-17 in service-learning projects that simultaneously support student development and meet community needs in areas such as the environment, education, public safety, and other human needs.

Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant   offers schools and school parent teacher groups the opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 to increase and enhance parent involvement.  Application deadlines: November 1 and March 15

Youth Venture grants encourage youth to become more engaged in their communities by making grants to help groups of young people establish "community-minded" businesses or clubs. No deadlines; funding is $200 to $1,000 start-up money and technical assistance from the Youth Venture  organization.  Affiliated with Americorps Vista.

The American Association of Teachers of French  (AATF) makes grants to support members' local projects.

The National Endowment for the Humanities  provides teachers and media specialists with grants, Bookshelf programs, and  professional development seminars geared to improve formal humanities education.  Maximum award vary with program.

Literacy

Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy  applications for the following year are released in June.

Barnes and Noble Booksellers considers requests for local and regional support in the form of donations and/or sponsorship with non-profit organizations that focus on literacy, the arts, or K-12 educations.

Dollar General Literacy Grants  Dollar General's Community Grants Program focuses on youth literacy initiatives; typical grant range is $2500 or less; submission deadlines for 2006 are March 5th, June 5th, September 5th, and December 5th.   Additionally, Dollar General is offering its Back to School Grant in which two $5,000 grants per state will be awarded for your school's library or literacy program.  Submission deadline for the 2006 Back to School Grant is August 11, 2006.

Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries  awards grants up to $5,000 to schools to update, extend, and diversify their school's library book collection.

Math

Toshiba American Foundation supports projects that enhance math and science education .  For K to 6: grants up to $1,000; applications due October 1. For 7th-12th grades: applications considered year-round for requests up to $5,000, and August 1 for requests in excess of $5,000.

Music

Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation funds instrument repair or the acquisition of new instruments for youth music programs nationwide.

Professional Development

The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program is designed to offer science, math, and technology teachers as opportunity to serve in the national public policy arena.

Arthur Vining Davis Foundation funds innovative professional development programs that strengthen teachers and their teaching in grades 9 -12.

The Braitmayer Foundation supports K-12 education by providing funds up to $35,000 for curricular and school reform initiatives, and for the preparation of and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those which encourage people of high ability and diverse background to enter and remain in K-12 teaching.  Submission deadlines: June 1st and November 15th.

Coca Cola Foundation  supports classroom teaching and learning through innovative K-12 public school programs, teacher development programs, and smaller projects dealing with specific activities in the elementary and secondary classroom.

Institute for Peace National Essay Contest for students in grades 9-12.  Professional Development workshops and seminars are also offer to history and social studies teachers.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) offers funding for summer seminars and institutes to teachers ranging from $1,800 for 2 weeks to $4,200 for 6 weeks.

The National Education Association Foundation  (NEA) - Teachers and education support professionals may apply for NEA grants and recognition awards (for professional and leadership development, books for school libraries, fine arts programs, etc). Awards range from $250 to $5,000 and are awarded three times a year.

The National Education Association Foundation  (NEA) - offers $2,000 grants to individual public school teachers and public education support professionals (para-educators, school bus drivers, maintenance and custodial staff, food services staff, school nurses and student services workers, clerical and office assistants, school security officers, and technicians) for participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research.  Applications are accepted and reviewed three times a year: February 1st for June 15th notification; June 1st for November 15th notification; and October 15th for March 15th notification.

Wachovia Teachers and Teaching Initiative   Wachovia  Foundation seeks to increase student achievement in Pre-K - 12 public education by building and supporting teachers and the teaching profession in scalable and sustainable ways.  Deadline: open   Awards range from $100,000 to $250,000.

Wallace Foundation is looking for innovative approaches that strengthen the ability of superintendents and principals to boost student learning.  Applications for grants up to $50,000 are accepted February 1 through November 30.

Science

Captain Planet Foundation offers grants to elementary, middle, and high school classes that promote an understanding of environmental issues, focus on hands-on involvement, help young people develop planning and problem solving skills, and promote interaction and cooperation within the group. Awards are between $250 and $2,500.  Deadlines for applications are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.

The Christopher Columbus Awards, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, encourage teams of middle school students to use science to improve their communities. 

Earthwatch Fellowships to Educators and high school students ages 16 and over. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but most decisions are made by March 1.

Toshiba American Foundation supports projects that enhance math and science programs.  For K to 6: grants up to $1,000; applications due October 1. For 7th-12th grades: projects up to $5,000; applications considered year-round.

Toyota TAPESTRY Grant Program awards grants of up to $10,000 and mini-grants of $2,500 each to K-12 science teachers.  Grants are awarded in three categories: Environmental Science Education, Physical Science Application, and Literacy and Science Education.  2006 - 2007 applications are due January 18, 2007.

Special Education

The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation  (ELA) funds programs in the areas of arts advocacy and education for adults with disabilities.  Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Sports

Women's Sports Foundation has various grant opportunities for women and girls in sports.

Technology

Best Buy TEACH AWARDS  recognizes creative uses of interactive technology in K-12 classrooms by awarding teachers with $2,500 or  $15,000 Best Buy gift cards.

Computers for Learning has surplus federal computer equipment available for schools and nonprofits that register.

Hewlett Packard Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative funds projects in K-12 public schools that are using a collaborative, team-based approach to implementing technology integration projects.  The activities of the project must be focused on using technology to teach, rather than on teaching students to use technology.  The value of the grant award to each school is at least $30,000 in professional development and HP equipment.

IBM Corporation Foundation focuses in education and education technology.

Wide-Ranging Funding Opportunities

The Allstate Foundation supports personal safety and security through safety-education programs with a youth emphasis.  There are no deadlines.

Avon Products Foundation, Inc. supports education, community and social services, arts organizations and programs that provide economic opportunities for women and girls.

Coca Cola Foundation  supports classroom teaching and learning through innovative K-12 public school programs, teacher development programs, and smaller projects dealing with specific activities in the elementary and secondary classroom.  Applications accepted year-round.

Corning Incorporated Foundation interests include community service programs for students, curriculum enrichment, student scholarships, facility improvement, and instructional technology projects for the classroom.

Dow Jones Newspaper Fund provides journalism workshops to encourage high school students to consider careers and fellowships for high school journalism teachers and publications' advisors .

The Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program provides teachers in grades 1 through 12 with funds (up to $2,500) to implement innovative classroom projects. 

The Magna Awards recognize schools and school district for their implementation and support if overall school improvement activities.

The MetLife Foundation Bridge Builders Grant  is offered through the National Association of Secondary Principals. This program awards public middle and high schools grants up to $5,000 to implement programs to strengthen ties between secondary schools and the students’ neighborhoods and communities

U.S. Bankcorp Foundation supports organizations that improve the educational and economic opportunities for low and moderate income individuals and families and enhance the cultural and artistic life of communities.
